2 Day Delhi to Ujjain Itinerary

A short spiritual escape that felt much bigger than the time I spent there

The Plan

I wanted a trip that was quick, meaningful, and budget-friendly, so I planned a 2-day journey from Delhi to Ujjain—and honestly, it turned out to be one of the most peaceful trips I’ve taken.

Day 0: Travel from Delhi (Overnight Journey)

I chose the boldtrain because it’s affordable and convenient.

-Board an overnight train from Delhi to Ujjain

  • Travel time: ~10–14 hours
  • Alternative: Fly to Indore, then take a 1-hour cab to Ujjain

👉 I preferred train—it saved money and gave me a relaxed start.

Day 1: Temples, Aarti & Spiritual Vibes

Early Morning: Arrival + Hotel Check-in

  • I reached Ujjain early morning, checked into a hotel near the temple, freshened up, and headed straight for darshan.

Morning: Visit Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga

  • This was the highlight of my trip.
  • If you’ve booked Bhasma Aarti, attend it before sunrise
    Otherwise, go for regular darshan.

👉 The energy inside the temple is something you have to feel.

Breakfast Break

  • After darshan, I grabbed a simple local breakfast—poha & chai.

Late Morning: Harsiddhi Temple

  • Just a short walk from Mahakal.
  • Peaceful and less crowded
  • Known for its powerful spiritual vibe

Afternoon: Kal Bhairav Temple

One of the most unique temples I’ve visited.

  • Famous for offering liquor as prasad
  • Strong cultural and mystical atmosphere

Evening: Aarti at Ram Ghat

  • As the sun set, I headed to the banks of the Shipra River.
  • Attend the evening aarti
  • Sit quietly and absorb the moment

👉 This was the most calming part of my day.

Night

  • Dinner at a local restaurant
  • Rest early for the next day

Day 2: History, Peace & Return

Morning: Sandipani Ashram

I started my second day at this peaceful ashram.

  • Believed to be where Lord Krishna studied
  • Quiet and refreshing

Optional Visits

If you have time, you can also visit:

  • Mangalnath Temple
  • Bade Ganesh Ji Ka Mandir

Lunch + Checkout

  • Enjoy a simple meal
  • Head back to your hotel, pack up

Return Journey

  • Take an afternoon/evening train back to Delhi
  • Or travel via Indore if flying

My Personal Tips

  • Stay near Mahakal temple (saves time & money)
  • Book Bhasma Aarti in advance
  • Keep Day 1 light—you’ll be tired from travel
  • Walk as much as possible

Final Thought

This 2-day trip wasn’t rushed—it was focused. I didn’t try to see everything, but what I did experience felt deep and meaningful.

If you’re short on time but want something powerful, this itinerary is more than enough.
