Nainital

History of Nainital

The Hills of Nainital was first discovered in year 1841.  The British Sugar Trader P.Barron from Shahjahanpur wrote “it is by far the best site I have witnessed in the course of a 1500 miles (2400km) trek in the Himalayas.”

In the primordial period (आदि काल) pilgrimage used this route to trek for Kailash mansarovar and return back through tanakpur.

But according to modern history, in the 1823 George William Trail, first saw Nainital and fell in love with this place.

In the year 1891  Britishers constructed “Boat House Club” for boating.

In the year 1880, that fatal day when it was raining continuously for 2 days.  No one expected that this would happen with them.  Due to continuous raining, there was a sudden land slide in Nainital which lead to 108 Indians and 43 Britishers killed in this accident.  Due to the landslide Victoria Hotel, and Boat House Club was damaged due to landslide in Nainital.

 He was a religious person and was very much impressed with the Indian culture. But in the year 1841 P.Barron build the first British building Pilgrim Lodge.  It was very difficult trek for other Britisher to reach Nainital.  Hence in the year, 1848 Uppar Mall Raod and the Lower Mall road was build for easily reaching to Nainital.

The first road was build in 1899 from Bhowali to Nainital and the road from Haldawani to Nainital was first constructed in the year 1915.

The first Bus Stand was build in 1925 at Talli Tal.  Where most of the motor vehicles used to stop.
