A Delhi to Rishikesh road trip is one of my favorite short rides in North India.
The road is smooth. The distance is comfortable. The scenery slowly changes from busy city roads to peaceful hills and river views.
Whenever I want a quick break from city life, I start my bike early in the morning and ride towards Rishikesh.
The ride from Delhi to Rishikesh is perfect for beginners, solo riders, and weekend travelers.
In this guide, I will share my route, travel tips, stops, itinerary, and road conditions based on my own travel experience.
Delhi to Rishikesh Distance and Travel Time
The distance from Delhi to Rishikesh is about 240 km. If the traffic is normal, it takes around 5 to 6 hours by road.
My Usual Route
Delhi – Meerut – Muzaffarnagar- Roorkee – Haridwar – Rishikesh
My Delhi to Rishikesh Road Trip Experience
I usually start my ride at 5:00 AM from Delhi.
In the morning, roads are empty.
The air is fresh.
I feel the joy of leaving urban life.
After crossing Ghaziabad, traffic becomes smooth.
The best feeling starts near Haridwar.
Here, the road begins to follow the Ganga River.
The last 25 km to Rishikesh is beautiful. I slow down my bike and enjoy the view.
Best Time for Delhi to Rishikesh Road Trip
You may travel throughout the year.
But some months are better.
Best Months
- October to March – cool weather
- February to April – perfect for motorcycle road trip, solo riders, feel the cool breeze, natural fragrance in the air in sync with nature.
Avoid These Months
- July and August (Heavy Rain)
- Long Holiday Weekend (Heavy Traffic)
Best Stops Between Delhi & Rishikesh
During my ride, I usually take short breaks. This makes me comfortable and enjoy my ride.
Here are my favourite stops
- Meerut – Breakfast Stop
- Meerut is about 70 km from Delhi. Many restaurants serve a good breakfast. I usually stop for tea and parantha.
- Muzaffarnagar – Midway Break
- Muzaffarnagar is halfway. You will find many fuel stations and restaurants to stretch your legs, and a quick nap would be joy.
- Haridwar – Spiritual Stop
- Before arriving in Rishikesh. I usually take a break. Park my motorcycle in the parking area near Har ki Pauri. Walk down the steps towards Har Ki Pauri, take a dip or two in the Ganga.
- The river view is peaceful.

The road condition in 2026 is mostly good.
Highway Quality
- Delhi to Meerut Expressway – Excellent
- Meerut to Muzaffarnagar – Smooth highway
- Muzaffarnagar to Roorkee – Good road
- Roorkee to Rishikesh – Moderate traffic
Near Roorkee, traffic can slow down.
But overall, the ride is comfortable.

Day Ride Plan
- 5:00 AM – Start from Delhi
- 7:00 AM – Breakfast at Meerut
- 9:30 AM – Tea Break at Muzaffarnagar
- 11:30 AM – Reach Haridwar
- 12:30 PM – Arrive at Rishikesh
The above timing is best to avoid traffic and scorching heat.

- You can walk across the bridge and enjoy the river view from Lakshman Jhula
- Ganga Ghats
- I like to sit quietly near Ganga Ghat to enjoy the peaceful, natural rhythmic sound of flowing water.

- Rishikesh is famous for adventure sports. River rafting is exciting. (Take precaution and wear safety gear)
