Ujjain Travel Guide: Money-Saving Tips (From My Experience)
Traveling to Ujjain doesn’t have to be expensive at all. In fact, with a few smart choices, I managed to keep my trip budget-friendly without missing any major experiences.
Here are the best money-saving tips I followed:-
- Stay near Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga – This one tip saved me and my time and money. Early morning darshan becomes easy (no cab needed, saved on auto fares). Walking distance 200 mtr = zero transport cost.
- Choose Train over Flight:– If you are coming from cities like Delhi or Mumbai. Train is the much cheaper than flights. Flights land in Indore, which adds extra travel cost.
- Pick Budget stays or Dharamshala’s : Instead of hotels, I looked for:-
- Dharamshala
- Budget guest houses
- simple home stays
- Can find easily for Rs.300/- to Rs. 800/- per night approx.
- Eat where locals eat: Food in Ujjain can be super cheap if you:-
- Eat at small local restaurants
- Try temple bhojan (free or low-cost meals)
I tried to keep by food budget under Rs.300/- per day.
- Walk Whenever possible: Major attractions are close to each other:-
- Ram Ghat
- Harsiddhi Temple
- Mahakal area
Walking not only saves money but also give you the real vibe of the city.
- Fix auto fares before ride:- Autos don’t always use meters. I make sure to :-
- Ask locals or hotel for price estimate
- fix fare before starting
This avoids overpaying tourists rates.
- Avoid Unofficial “VIP Darshan” Offers:- Around temples, many people offer
- Faster entry
- Special puja packages
Avoid them and use official counters only. save money and avoide scams.
- Carry water & Essentials: Buying water repeatedly adds up. so
- I carry a reusable bottle
- refilled at hotel or safe places.
Small savings, but it adds up over 2-3 days.
- Travel in off-season:
- Avoid peak times like
- Mahashivratri
- Kumbh Mela
- The prices of hotels can be double or triple during these times.
